Connecting feedback with love is so beautiful!

I recently did a quick dive into research on emotional dysregulation, including the Soler-Gutiérrez et al. review you cite here. I was really interested to see that researchers are advocating for emotional dysregulation to be listed as a fourth "official" ADHD symptom. I wasn't able to find any research published on RSD yet, which surprised me -- it is so widely discussed in ADHD communities, I think we definitely need research about it as well!

I wrote about it here: https://adhdunpacked.substack.com/p/rejection-sensitive-dysphoria-adhd

Nice to meet you Taylor.

I'm all for the inclusion for emotional dysregulation as a symptom in the US. It currently falls as a criteria for European standards based on my search (source below). I too wasn't able to find any journal articles using the term RSD directly but found it nestled as a part of papers looking at emotional dysregulation.

I'm curious to see what the impact is the individual patients might be having RSD and emotional dysregulation be split terms. To me RSD fits neatly under the emotional dysregulation but I think there's a cost to not acknowledging such a common term now. It's a balance of science vs popular lexicon.

What do you think? Great article btw. Thanks for linking it and being a reader.

"Rejection sensitive dysphoria is not included in the DSM-5 for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD); it is not a formal symptom of ADHD in the United States, however emotional dysregulation is one of the six fundamental features used to diagnose ADHD in the European Union." -https://www.additudemag.com/rejection-sensitive-dysphoria-adhd-emotional-dysregulation/#:~:text=Sometimes%20called%20hysteroid%20dysphoria%20in,criticism%2C%20no%20matter%20how%20constructive

Yeah I absolutely think there’s a cost to the disconnect between the mainstream ADHD conversation and research! It can make it hard when the ways people describe and experience ADHD is so different from where the science and medicine is, I think.

I’d love to see someone validate a scale for RSD and study to see if it differs in ADHD vs non-ADHD populations, if it is distinct from emotional dysregulation, and how it relates to other mental health conditions or demographic variables.
